Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever

Our Standard has five components that relate to designing ideal seed mixtures along with planting guidance that will greatly enhance benefits for pheasants, quail, pollinators, monarch butterflies and other wildlife. This is what we are striving for...

  1. A minimum of 50% of the seed mixture will be comprised of wildflowers and forbs.

  2. Each seeding mixture will contain 40 or more species to provide high diversity and broad benefits.

  3. Each seeding mixture will contain at least one appropriate milkweed species to benefit Monarch Butterflies.

  4. An appropriate number of flowering plants will be provided throughout the entire growing season.

  5. Seeding mixtures are designed using the appropriate seeds per square foot for each species.

Our High Quality Habitat Standard is presented to clarify what we mean when we talk about “high quality habitat.” It is an easy thing to say, but it is a very challenging thing to understand. Our hope is that, by presenting this standard, we will change the narrative and understanding of what wildlife—especially pheasants and quail—need to survive. Our seed mixture and planting design aspirations are a good place to start.
